Sarah Lyon - Intake Associate

Sarah grew up in South Florida, where her love for animals and the outdoors took root early in life. Growing up with an older brother with cerebral palsy, she has always been deeply aware and passionate about the importance of advocating for those who can’t do so for themselves—both humans and animals alike. After many years of being self-employed and running a small business in the beauty and events industries, with a mission of building up confidence in others, she felt a strong calling to shift her focus and dedicate her time and efforts toward a different cause.

Her interest in conservation was sparked years ago while creating a pollinator garden in her yard. Through this process, she immersed herself in the world of native gardening and landscaping, learning the vital role they play in supporting local food chains and ecosystems. What began as a haven for bees and butterflies soon blossomed into a thriving sanctuary for native birds and wildlife. Watching this transformation unfold ignited her dedication to conservation and restoration efforts, as well as her passion for educating others on their importance.

Sarah was first introduced to PHSS during a personal wildlife emergency when she discovered an orphaned Virginia opossum in her yard. After bringing the opossum to PHSS for care and learning more about their mission, her passion for protecting native wildlife deepened even further. She is both humbled and excited to be part of such an incredible team, doing work that makes such a meaningful impact.

In addition to gardening, Sarah enjoys traveling, hiking, paddleboarding, and pursuing her love for landscape and wildlife photography—just about anything that allows her to immerse herself in nature!
