Animal Care - Clinic Internship

Clinic interns will have the opportunity to learn and assist in all parts of wildlife rehabilitation, from admittance to release. Interns will help rehabilitation staff in multiple areas of the daily operations with a focus on the care of orphans and general husbandry. Daily activities include but are not limited to: restraining animals for exams, administering medications, observing intake exams, various feeding techniques, feeding infant animals, creating enrichment, setting up enclosures to suit particular species’ needs, and cleaning inside/outside enclosures. 

A PHSS Intern is ideally an individual that wants to learn about all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation and is for those interested in a career in wildlife/veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, zookeeping, or environmental education. 

Program requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years old

  • Preference is given to current college students or recent graduates. 

  • Applicants must fill out the online application and submit a resume. Cover letters are encouraged. 

  • Interns must be able to commit to the entire session period for two full shifts per week, 9AM - 5PM. 

  • Internships are unpaid and housing is not provided. 

  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Applicants must have health insurance.

  • Applicants must submit to a background check prior to orientation. 

  • All interns must agree to and sign rules and regulations in regard to commitment, dress code, code of conduct, photo policies, and liability waivers.

Applicants will be notified when all required documents are received. Those selected for interviews will be subsequently notified. Applications received after the deadline or missing required information will not be considered.

Intern Sessions:

Spring: January-May | Deadline: November 1st

Summer: May-August | Deadline: March 1st

Fall: August-December | Deadline: July 1st


Social Media Marketing Intern

PHSS is seeking a motivated social media intern to help grow our various social channels such as TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Ultimately, you will help us reach our target audience by delivering both useful and appealing online information about our organization’s work. Please note, that the candidate chosen for this position MUST possess the appropriate knowledge to properly communicate our mission via social media captions and content (ex: Ornithology, Ecology, Wildlife, Conservation, etc.). This position is largely remote, with the opportunity to curate digital content on-site when needed.


Education & Outreach Internship

The education and outreach intern will work alongside the education and communications coordinator to focus on outreach programs and events as well as social media and marketing content as needed. Interns will learn about Pelican Harbors history, the role Pelican Harbor plays in the community, and our conservation efforts. Interns will apply this information at educational events and during facility tours. They will gain experience in public speaking, event planning, education program planning, and social media. Interns will work to educate people of all ages from classroom presentations to tabling at public events. 

This internship is ideally for someone interested in environmental education. Priority will be given to those majoring in education or a natural science fields. Applicants must be 18+ and a current college student or recent graduate to apply. Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to commit to three-four months with 8 hours minimum a week. All interns must agree to and sign rules and regulations in regard to commitment, dress code, code of conduct, photo policies, and liability waivers.
