Helene Valentine

Helene Valentine grew up in Miami. As a child, most of her weekends were spent on the family boat enjoying our marine environment. In 1975 she graduated from Maryville College, in Tennessee, where her studies in Ecology and Biology cemented her appreciation for the natural world and its intricate balance. Soon after, she began her career at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine Sciences studying the effects of pollution, pesticides,  and toxins on marine life. The next 30 years were devoted to studying human neurodegenerative diseases at the UM School of Medicine. She is currently the Director of Research Support at the Medical School and has transitioned to part time status.

Helene is a member of numerous environmental organizations and a volunteer in the Green Task Force for the City of South Miami.  She enjoys spending time outdoors boating, hiking, and gardening. She is very passionate about the conservation, preservation, and stewardship of our natural environment especially the welfare of our native wildlife.
